A little more about Meals For Music:
Meals For Music launched in 2023, but the idea was born in 2020 when, during the pandemic, founder Carolyn Miller discovered music in a new way…
“I couldn’t see live music anymore, something that I didn’t realize had been such an important part of my life until it was gone. I still remember my first time seeing a live band – I was about 10 years old and a friend invited me to see Natalie Merchant preform at a beautiful outdoor concert venue in Danbury, CT. The live bass kicked me in the gut and ignited a flame in me. I needed more.
As a teenager, the music and the bands I listened to became part of my identity and seeing live music was an escape from the oftentimes crazy real world. Words can’t express the feeling of being in a crowd of strangers, all coming together for a common purpose and moving in synchronicity to the beat. The feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself is both freeing and empowering.
I know I’m not alone in my feelings – according to a 2018 report, more than half of Americans attend a concert every year. This means that A LOT of people love live music — but for the smaller acts who tour the country providing it, there’s often very little support.
I saw this firsthand when COVID-19 temporarily shut the world down. As I streamed concerts on my TV, I listened to interviews with musicians as they reminisced about the days of touring. Some were finally able to take a step back and actually process the good and bad of being on the road for the first time, and complaints about food were a recurring theme, as were the difficulties of just starting out and the years of not being able to pay your bills. I had never thought much about the people making the music, only the music they were making and how it made me feel. I thought: how can I help? Being a music fan was no longer enough and I knew that I had to help support these people on a different level.
Food is my love language. I’ve always loved to entertain and cook for family and friends. Why not put this together with my love of music to help nourish the musicians who feed my soul? And so Meals For Music was born.
Meals For Music is our way of helping to give back to those who leave it all on stage every night for US, the fans. Beyond helping out financially, a nourishing meal can go a long way when you’re far from home. I hope you’ll join us in providing a little bit of comfort to the musicians who provide the soundtrack of our lives.”
